About me

Communication and language are important to me and have formed the basis of both of my careers – as a journalist and then as a public relations consultant.

I have a keen understanding of what the media wants, when they want it, how they want it and who they want it from and, just as importantly, what they do not want. On the other side of the coin, I help clients to get their messages across, whether they are wanted or not!

I have won Institute of Public Relations Yorkshire and Lincolnshire Cream Awards for both Trade and Technical and Crisis and Issues Management PR campaigns.

I take an active approach to maximising publicity for my clients in a way that sits happily with their values and strategy. I can identify potential stories from the minimum of information and have the ability to “sell” an idea to a journalist, whilst ensuring that the client’s communication objectives are met.

I work with a number of associates, including other PR professionals, photographers and designers, to ensure I can fulfil my clients’ needs.   I believe in building strong relationships with clients and have worked with some businesses for more than ten years.

I have in-depth experience in the following sectors:

  • Property
  • Construction
  • Manufacturing
  • Professional services
  • Professional bodies
  • Charities
  • Public sector

I have advised on crisis communications for a number of different situations, including:

  • Major industrial dispute leading to dismissal of entire workforce
  • Deaths in the workplace
  • Professional misconduct investigations
  • Major impact on industry due to external crisis

I've also dealt with:

  • Management buy-outs
  • Mergers and acquisitions
  • Redundancies
  • Relocations

I am happy to provide references from clients and/or journalists if required. Out of hours, I read (naturally!); ride my horse, walk our dogs, drive a Defender, do a bit of cooking and don’t have time for much else!
